PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Presented by Jackson Lewis Shareholder Michael Hekle, this presentation will discuss state and federal agencies recent activities in their review and prosecution of Employee Handbook policies. It will also include guidelines on how to draft and enforce policies that would are both compliant and effective with the law.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
MICHAEL R. HEKLE is a Principal in the White Plains office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Since joining the firm in 2001, he has focused his practice on labor law.
Mr. Hekle represents employers of varying sizes and industries in a wide-range of labor and employment matters, including union contract negotiations, union grievances and arbitrations, representational campaigns, NLRB trials and other traditional labor matters. Mr. Hekle also assists and counsels organizations on items such as wage and hour audits, discrimination claims, employee handbook policies, management training matters and other preventative strategies.
In addition, a significant portion of Mr. Hekle’s practice is devoted to the representation of villages, towns, libraries and various other public entities in contract negotiations, disciplinary proceedings, PERB hearings and interest arbitrations. Mr. Hekle has assisted public sector employers in a wide range of traditional employment law matters such as discrimination claims, leaves of absence and policy drafting.
Mr. Hekle is a frequent speaker before local and regional SHRM and LERM organizations.
Mr. Hekle is admitted to practice in both New York and Connecticut state and federal courts.
Mr. Hekle received undergraduate degrees in Liberal Arts (1994) and Education (1996) from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. Mr. Hekle earned his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law (2001). Here, he was the recipient of the Jonathan Falk Labor Award and a member of the Wagner Labor Moot Court in 2001.
