PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This 1 hour and 15 minute class will provide the student with a basic overview/history of active shooter incidents, current Law Enforcement definitions and terminology used by Law Enforcement, as well as provides current Law Enforcement response trends, and how civilians are to react if you are caught in an active shooter situation. The emphasis on the presentation is the Run, Hide, Fight response that is currently endorsed by the Department of Homeland Security and the specific way to handle each of those components.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Kenneth T. Jones, Orange County Undersheriff
Kenneth T. Jones has been Undersheriff since 2003, he is in command of 425 sworn personnel including 125 Police Officers and 300 Corrections Officers. He interacts with more than 30 other police agencies. Prior to being Undersheriff, KT worked for the New York State Police for 24 years. He began his career as a State Trooper and was promoted to Investigator. As an Investigator he conducted criminal investigations including forensic crime scene analysis, undercover narcotics operations and financial crimes. In between his law enforcement duties is also an Adjunct Instructor at Sullivan County Community College teaching various courses in criminal justice. When it comes to training Undersheriff Jones feels “the ability to be comfortable speaking to a small group or to hundreds of people in a large public forum and especially in the written form is essential for an executive level manager. Having served at the highest level, in both labor and management positions, coupled with teaching throughout my career my skill set provides a unique and innovative perspective to issues. Success in the long term depends on being truthful, honorable and possessing a sense of professional integrity.
